1. Going Beyond the Grave is Going Too Far

In Tiger’s debut ad since his stint in sex rehab (it’s a tough job, but someone has to do it), Nike features Tiger’s father, Earl Woods. But here’s the clincher—he’s dead.

In the spot, Earl’s voice asks Tiger “what he’s learned” and a pitiful looking Tiger shoots the camera his best puppy dog eyes, and then the Nike logo appears.

I’m not sure what kind of feeling Nike was trying to evoke from its followers, but based on some of the comments from AgencySpy’s posting of this spot, most viewers thought it was a “stomach-turning, exploitative low” while others felt at the very least that the message didn’t “connect with the brand.”

Is Nike so great that one can still “Just Do it” from beyond the grave? I think not.

2. Apple Worshipers Fall to the Feet of the iPad

It’s not a big surprise that gadget-obsessed, devout Apple adorers would fall in love with the iPad. I think most Apple junkies would follow Steve Jobs off a cliff if his latest iWhatever instructed them to do so. But Stephen Fry’s obvious gushing in his Time’s article, “The iPad Launch: Can Steve Jobs Do It Again?” is enough to make you want to splash some cold water on his face and tell him to get a hold of himself.

There’s no doubt Steve Jobs is a genius. And despite the constant hero-worship from Fry, the interview is pretty interesting. Take a gander and make up your own mind on what you think about Apple’s latest baby. But when you get to the description of Fry’s first time using an iPad, avert your children’s eyes. Things get a little too hot for web reading.

3. The Most Revolutionary Marketing Tool Available

Amanda Palmer, the lead singer of The Dresden Dolls is free. From Roadrunner Records, that is. And now that she’s able to market herself and her music however she pleases, Amanda’s decided to use the most powerful and revolutionary marketing tool available: Herself. This is some truly cutting edge stuff.

According to David Meerman Scott’s most recent post, not only has the singer built an insane following on the web with her blog, but she’s got over 400,000 followers on Twitter and Facebook. She’s even made a cool $11,000 on Twitter in just 2 hours. All this without a record label dictating to her what her image should be. It seems that when it comes to marketing something, you should always be true to the product. Especially if that product is an Indie rock star with some killer vocal chords.

4. For Just Nine Billion Dollars, You Can Get 2 Gigawatts of Solar Power

In case you don’t know, 2 gigawatts (or 2,000 megawatts) is enough power to provide 40% of Morocco’s electricity to 32 million people. Which is what will happen in 2015. Renewable Power News recently reported that Morocco plans to construct 5 solar power facilities which will start saving Moroccans money right away since it will reduce their reliance on fossil fuel imports.

The Moroccan Minister of Finance explained that the project would be a “significant point regarding the vital requirement of government to step up to the climate change.” Hmm. I think I know another country that needs to do the same thing.

5. Killing Off Lost’s Smoke Monster Will Reduce CO2 Emissions

Check out Grist’s latest video that interviews Daily Show Correspondents Jason Jones and Wyatt Cenac about the most eco-friendly things they’ve seen or thought of recently.

Warning: There is some inappropriateness and vulgar language. But it’s funny. So lighten up.
