By Lindsey Campbell, Captains of Industry

Hey Captain’s Readers,

Here’s your Thursday Deal:

1. To the first of many

It’s been 9 years in the making, but the $1 billion Cape Wind project finally got the go-ahead from U.S. Interior Secretary Kenneth Salazar yesterday. Not only will this be the nation’s first offshore wind farm, but according to Salazar, but it’ll be the “first of many projects up and down the Atlantic Coast.” Cape Wind Associates will serve as project developer and plans on beginning construction of the 130 turbines off Nantucket Sound in Cape Cod by the end of the year.

The Captains of Industry would just like to say congratulations to Cape Wind. As avid renewable energy advocates and believers, we’re proud to live and work in the state of Massachusetts, a place where revolutions are born. Hopefully this will be just the beginning of many more offshore wind farms to come. Cheers!

2. Beer is in session

Have you ever had a session beer? Well, if you’re a “beer snob,” (i.e.: someone who discusses ales, lagers and stouts the way one would a good roll in the hay) then you’re most likely already in the know. But if you’re just a regular Joe when it comes to libations, then you need to know about the new beer on the block. According to Scalable Intimacy, session beers are built for a “session” at your local dive bar (shout out to The Dug Out). Though the beers have low alcohol content, they’re still full flavored. And for anyone but a college student, an added bonus is that you can drink a few sessions without feeling like your going to fall off your bar stool.

Check out the latest session, “Notch” created by Chris Lohring, or read Scalable Intimacy’s post to learn more about session brew-ha-has.

3. MoMT

Please come visit the Museum of Modern Tweets. There’s an extraordinary exhibition depicting the literal translation of celebrity tweets by using illustration and design. My particular favorite is the illustration of Ice T’s delightfully colorful tweet from April 8th. Please enjoy.

4. Give away the milk for free

If your boss is still afraid to give away free content, it’s time to explain to them that giving away the milk doesn’t necessarily mean someone won’t buy the cow. David Meerman Scott explains in his blog, Web Ink Now, that it wasn’t so long ago that marketers would only give up the goods if they were offered valuable information in return: contacts. Well nowadays, marketers don’t have to wait for the ring. Being a little slutty content-wise can actually draw customers to you. After you’ve produced valuable (free) content for awhile, it won’t be long until your company becomes the one people turn to when they need information, and this will only bring you the business your searching for. Don’t believe me? Ask devout free-content producers Seth Godin, Tom Peters and David Meerman Scott.

Until tomorrow,

Captain Lindsey
